Etihad Stadium side target Britannia Stadium centre-back.
England defender Ryan Shawcross may be a shock departure from Stoke in the transfer window if he doesn’t sign a six-year deal offered recently.
The club are unhappy at the prospect of the 25-year-old running down the last 18 months of his deal. Manchester City like him, and could be tempted to make a move for the former Manchester United man.

Man City are not perhaps the defensive force they were in their Premier League title winning pomp, as evidenced by the three goals they shipped in at Carrow Road on the weekend, and as such Roberto Mancini may feel that a move for the Stoke City defender would be a wise one worth considering.
Whilst a move to the Etihad Stadium would perhaps be a contentious one for the former Man United man to consider the England defender could well feel that such a switch would be beneficial for his future career progression.
Tony Pulis would be loathed to lose his skipper and a six year deal has been offered to the 25 year old, but if Ryan Shawcross feels sufficiently tempted by such a switch there may not be much the Potters can do but look to cash-in on the rock solid defender.
Stoke City’s success in recent years has stemmed largely down to their defensive soundness, indeed even though the Britannia Stadium side conceded three at home to Southampton in their last fixture they still possess the best defensive record in the top tier.
Joleon Lescott has been forced out of the first team by impressive youngster Matija Nastasic but Mancini may feel his back-line could do with added reinforcement, especially if Kolo Toure off to the African Nations Cup in January and February.
