Arsene Wenger has ruled out former striker Thierry Henry having a third spell at Arsenal.

The 35-year-old had trained at the Gunners’ Hertfordshire base to maintain fitness following the end of his MLS season with New York Red Bulls.

Henry returned on loan last year, making four appearances and extending his club record goal tally to 228.

Wenger said: “He is not ready, he has just come back from holiday anyway. At the moment we are not on that case.”
After a 1-1 draw at Southampton on Tuesday, the Arsenal boss said of Henry: “I think he goes away somewhere.”
Asked for clarification, he said: “No [it is not happening]”

At various points over the past couple of months it has seemed fairly possible that Thierry Henry would make another return to the North London club which helped make him the footballing legend that he has become.

The 35 year old has been training with Arsenal since the end of the MLS season and having been a moderate success in a similar loan spell last season Arsene Wenger appeared open to bringing the Gunners hero back for another stint but such a deal is now off the table.

The French forward had an excellent season with the New York Red Bulls and one would imagine that the MLS side were not too keen on Henry risking himself during a loan spell in the Premier League and probably happy to have talk of a short term move back to Arsenal nipped in the bud.
