Modric and Song lead poll of worst signings of the season
They used to set the Premiership alight with their technical ability and eye for a pass. But Luka Modric and Alex Song have clearly struggled with the transition from London to Spain and this failure has been recognised by the readers of Spanish newspaper Marca, according to the Daily Mail.
Former Tottenham midfielder Modric has struggled to justify his huge summer transfer fee after initially impressing for Mourinho’s men. The Croatian international’s loss of form has seen him be restricted to just 717 minutes this season as Real Madrid have failed to reproduce their form from last year and sit a seemingly unassailable sixteen points behind leaders Barcelona.
Barcelona seem certain to secure the La Liga title already but no thanks to Alex Song who has managed just seven appearances for the Catalan giants. Song might well hit back at his critics however by pointing out he’s been largely deployed at centre-back instead of his preferred midfield role.
It’s not all doom and gloom for former Premiership stars currently working for Spanish taskmasters. Former Birmingham and Newcastle speed demon Obafemi Martins was voted second in the best signing poll having scored six goals for new club Levante. The poll was one by Spanish international and Barcelona left-back Jordi Alba.
