Magpies hoping to secure deal for FC Twente’s Douglas
Newcastle are set to reignite their interest in Brazilian born centre half Douglas according to talkSPORT. Both Fulham and Newcastle were reported to have been interested in the player during the summer but failed to meet FC Twente’s valuation of the player.
That may be about to change however as with the player’s contract expiring in June, Twente are rumoured to be keen to cash in on the player rather than risk losing him for nothing in the summer.
It may not be all plain sailing for The Magpies though. The hard-tackling defender is enjoying a growing reputation having recently been capped by the Dutch national side, and there are rumours that Italian giants Inter Milan are ready to swoop. FC Twente, currently managed by former England manager Steve McClaren, currently lie top of the Dutch Eredivisie, level on points with PSV Eindhoven.
Newcastle play host to Everton tonight hoping to improve on their recent performances. While they have hit the net three times in both of their last two games, the need for a defender of Douglas’ quality is highlighted by the fact that they have also gone on to concede eleven goals in those games.
