Blues Manager maintains Spanish international is prepared for squad rotation should new signings come in
ITV are reporting that Chelsea manager Rafa Benitez has insisted Spanish international Fernando Torres will not cause any problems were he to be dropped to the bench following the expected influx of new arrivals at Chelsea.
With Daniel Sturridge’s move to Liverpool almost complete, Chelsea have been linked with a number of centre forwards including Atletico Madrid’s Colombian sensation Radamel Falcao, Bayer Leverkusen’s Andre Schurrle and want-away Newcastle United man Demba Ba.
While Torres has been in better form in recent weeks, there remain doubts about his long term ability to keep hitting the back of the net. With Chelsea almost certain to bring in more reinforcements this January, it remains to be seen how Torres will react to any possible demotion from his manager.
The pair know each other well from their time at Liverpool, but the former Atletico Madrid striker and Euro 2012 golden boot winner made no secret about his dissatisfaction with his lacking of playing time last season when he was often overlooked in favour of Didier Drogba.
