Borussia Dortmund midfielder Sven Bender wanted at Old Trafford.
Manchester United are preparing a £15 million move for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Sven Bender to become the long-term replacement for Paul Scholes, the Sunday Times report.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s search for a defensive midfielder to partner Michael Carrick could end with the capture of Bender, who has impressed United’s scouts who have regularly watched Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund this season as they are also tracking striker Robert Lewandowski. The Polish international striker is expected to make a move to United and the Premier League at the end of the season.
Bender formed a notable partnership with Shinji Kagawa during Borussia Dortmund’s title-winning season last year, with United signing the Japanese star during the summer. Should Bender make a £15million move to Old Trafford in the transfer window, that partnership would be back together for the second half of the season, although Bender is more likely to join at the end of the season as a long-term replacement for Scholes with Dortmund reluctant to sell while still in the Champions League.
Bender, a 23-year-old whose twin brother Lars plays for Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, has been capped twice by Germany. He is under contract to Borussia Dortmund until the end of next season.
