St James’ Park side target Hawthorns forward.
Italian source TuttoMercato claim that Newcastle United will look to West Brom striker Peter Odemwingie to act as a replacement for Demba Ba, who left to join Chelsea earlier this week.
Alan Pardew is keen to bring in an adequate striker signing to make up for the loss of the Senegal international and has set his sights on Nigerian forward Odemwingie, who may well jump at the chance of a move to St James’ Park having played more of a supporting role at the Hawthorns this term.
The 31 year old former Lokomotiv Moscow man has started 12 of West Brom’s 21 Premier League fixtures as Baggies boss Steve Clarke has opted to use the likes of Shane Long and Romelu Lukaku in a rotation policy that has certainly aided the club’s excellent start to the season.
Odemwingie has netted a total of 30 goals in 81 appearances for West Brom since his move to the club two and a half years ago.
Pardew knows he has his work cut out trying to sign a player who can replicate the achievements of outgoing striker Demba Ba and also has to work within budgetary constraints that may hamper his search for a proven Premier League goal-scorer.
