St Mary’s teenager going nowhere.
Sky Sports today reports that teenage Southampton full-back Luke Shaw has shunned apparent interest in his services from prospective suitors by putting pen to paper on a new long term Saints contract.
The 17-year-old was promoted to the first team last summer and has adapted to life in the top tier with great maturity and is now on the fringes of an England Under 21 call-up.
Shaw’s emergence in Nigel Adkins first team set-up has coincided with a good run of form that has seen the South Coast side pull clear of the relegation places.
Arsenal and Tottenham were both said to be tracking the defender and given that both sides have previously brought in players from the Southampton academy Adkins may well have feared the worst.
Shaw has made ten Premier League starts thus far this season, during which time Southampton have lost just twice.
