talkSPORT is today reporting on something of a transfer rumour triangle.

West Ham are reportedly keeping a close eye on Everton veteran Sylvain Distin, who is out of contract in the summer, as Sam Allardyce looks to replace youngster James Tomkins who he feels could be set to leave Upton Park for Newcastle United.

Magpies boss Alan Pardew knows Tomkins well from his time at the East London club, when the adaptable defender was making great strides in the club’s youth side and on the fringes of the first team set-up.

Former England Under 21 international Tomkins is a highly rated competent customer but appears to be behind both James Collins and Winston Reid in the West Ham pecking order and that could further the chances of the Essex born defender would be tempted by a move to St James’ Park.

Experienced centre-back Distin has featured prominently this term, helping to keep David Moyes’s side up around the top four but unless a new deal is forthcoming then a move to the Capital may well interest the former PSG, Man City and Portsmouth man.
