Lampard’s agent recently confirmed that he has been told by the European Champions that they will not be renewing his contract.
Still 12 Chelsea vs Arsenal tickets available
That has come as a shock to many, who still believe Lampard has what it takes to play at this highest level.
Hope had been given to Chelsea fans after the game against Stoke however when shot-stopper Petr Cech hinted that the 34 year old could yet stay at Stamford Bridge.
But Rafa Benitez has moved to pour cold water on the suggestion, which will likely make the Spanish boss even more popular with the Chelsea faithful than he already is.
‘We know Frank is doing well in training and is playing well. Everyone can see he is doing well and the rest of the team is doing well at the same time. Maybe that was what Petr was trying to say – Frank can play at a good level and hopefully he can continue until the end of the season.’
A host of top clubs have been linked with the England star, including the likes of Manchester United, Inter Milan and PSG, and he will have no shortage of suitors should Chelsea decide to let him go.
