Troubled Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli could be on his way back to Italy this month after his agent opened talks with AC Milan, The Sun report.

Balotelli, the controversial Italian international forward, has been out of favour in recent weeks after a training ground bust-up with manager Roberto Mancini and he is expected to leave the Erihad Stadium despite being given assurances he is still wanted at Manchester City by his club manager.

Any move to AC Milan was thought to be unlikely when owner Silvio Berlusconi branded Balotelli, who previously played for rivals Inter Milan before heading to the Premier League, a ‘rotten apple’ but it appears he could still be heading to the San Siro after all.

According to The Sun, discussions have taken place with Balotelli’s agent Mino Raiola in Italy at the AC Milan offices, and it understood that he could be on his way back to Serie A in a £24million deal to end his spell in the Premier League.

City, who have Sergio Aguero on his way back to fitness after a hamstring injury, have been linked with a move for Napoli’s Uruguyan international striker Edinson Cavani in the January transfer window should Balotelli leave the club.
