Liverpool Boss Promises New Signings

Anfield manager hoping for two new signings.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers expects to have two new signings in his Anfield squad come the end of the month.

Rodgers snapped up Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge for £12million at the start of the January transfer window, but has been unable to make a breakthrough in the market since – although not for the want of trying.

Tom Ince, the midfielder Liverpool sold to Blackpool, was expected to be brought back to Anfield only for negotiations to stall over the price tag, while Rodgers is hoping to tie up a deal to sign Inter Milan’s 20-year-old Brazilian international midfielder Philippe Coutinho.

Defender Ashley Williams, the Welsh international captain, has been linked with a move to link-up with his former Swansea City boss Rodgers, although that deal is more likely to happen in the summer.

“We hope to do some business between now and the end of the month,” Rodgers told reporters at his briefing before the FA Cup fourth round clash with Oldham. “The owners have been brilliant in supporting (me), we knew we were maybe a little bit short in the summer.

“We all agreed this was a month we would try to reinforce, if we could. Very quickly we got Daniel Sturridge in and he has made a big impact, proving the owners were right to fund the money for him. With respect, £12million for a player like Daniel Sturridge is a real bargain and I think he will prove that over the next couple of seasons.

“We know we still need one or two additions more and the club are doing everything they can to assist me in that. If we can then great, if not we will have review it again in the summer.”
