Arsenal and Newcastle United will have to pay £6million if they want to capture teenage sensation Florian Thauvin from French club Bastia.

The two Premier League clubs have been tracking the 20-year-old midfielder throughout the January transfer window and to step up their interest in the final days before it closes firmly shut on the final day of the month.

It was reported that Newcastle have had a £3million for the Ligue 1 star turned down and Bastia are wanting an offer of £6million if they are to allow their prized possession to move across the English Channel to the Premier League, according to the Metro Newspaper.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, meanwhile, is reported to have enquired about the availability of Thauvin with Bastia’s hierarchy.

The asking price, however, is likely to mean that both Arsenal and Newcastle put their interest on hold onto until the summer with Bastia in no rush to cash in on Thauvin, who is under contract until 2015.

If Newcastle do pull off a swoop for Thauvin, it would be a sixth signing from the French league having already signed Mathieu Debuchy from Lille, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa from Montpellier, Nancy’s Massadio Hairada, Yoan Gouffran from Bordeaux and Toulouse’s Moussa Sissoko this month.
