Norwich have been attempting to recruit 23-year-old Hooper throughout the month and had previously had two bids turned down of around £4million. An increased offer, believed to be closer to the £5million mark and including Steve Morison as part of a swap deal, was made but Celtic have dismissed it.

Celtic manager Neil Lennon told BBC Sport:  “I think Norwich came in with a third bid yesterday and it was rejected. They were well short. We don’t have a price on Gary, but the bid that was put in yesterday was well short.”

Norwich have turned their attentions to signing Leeds United’s Argentine striker Luciano Becchio instead with Welsh international Morison set to go in the opposite direct to Elland Road as part of the transfer.

Sierre Leone international striker Kei Kamara has also arrived at Carrow Road in the final days of the transfer window after signing a loan deal until the end of the season to join from MLS side Sporting Kansas City.

Norwich also had a bid on the table for Swansea City striker Danny Graham but look likely to miss out to Sunderland in that deal, while they were also interested in signing Queens Park Rangers forward Jamie Mackie.
