20 Transfers Deals That Could Happen In The Summer Transfer Window

Twenty deals we believe have a decent chance of occurring during the summer transfer window.

20. Andy Carroll to Newcastle

West Ham may have an agreement to sign Andy Caroll when his season-long loan at Upton Park expires, but there is no guarantee that Liverpool’s £33million man will want to make a permanent switch.

Instead, he could well be heading back to hometown club Newcastle United who are keen to have the 24-year-old England international targetman back in the fold two years after selling him to Anfield. He will return at a much cheaper price too.

19. Neilton to Chelsea

Branded the new Neymar – which seems a bit of a contradiction when the original one is only 21 and still making his name in the game – Neilton has been linked with a £5million switch to Chelsea in the summer.

The talented 19-year-old could join a Brazilian contingent at Stamford Bridge that already includes David Luiz, Ramires and Oscar as well as Lucas Piazon who is currently on loan in La Liga. He would be a very cheap purchase in the present transfer climate because of a £5million buy-out clause.

18. Ashley Williams to Liverpool

Liverpool’s need for a new centre-back increased this week when Jamie Carragher announced he will quit the club in the summer and head into a well-deserved retirement.

With Sebastian Coates also set to be offloaded, manager Brendan Rodgers needs to bring in a new face to compliment Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger and is set to return to former club Swansea City to sign 28-year-old Ashley Williams in the summer.

17. Thibaut Courtois to Atletico Madrid

Thibaut Courtois cost Chelsea £8million when signing him from Genk a season-and-a-half ago but the Belgian international has yet to play a single game for the club having been farmed out on loan to Atletico Madrid for the last two seasons.

The 20-year-old Belgian international’s performances in La Liga have attracted attention from Barcelona, but it is Atletico Madrid he is likely to join with Peter Cech continuing to block his way to Premier League football at Stamford Bridge.

16. Kevin Strootman to Liverpool/Manchester United

PSV Eindhoven’s talented midfielder Kevin Strootman was linked with January transfer moves to both Manchester United and Liverpool, only for the speculation not to materialise into a deal.

The 22-year-old Dutch international is, however, expected to swap the Eredivisie for the Premier League in the summer and it looks a straight fight between the old rivals Liverpool and Manchester United as to who he wants to join more.

15. Robert Lewandowski to Bayern Munich

The has been much speculation about Robert Lewandowski’s future for the past 12 months, but it appears Borussia Dortmund’s star striker will be staying in the Bundesliga with a deal to join Bayern Munich all but done.

The big Polish international was hot on Manchester United’s wanted list, but the pull of joining Pep Guardiola’s new regime at Bayern Munich is too good an opportunity to turn down.

14. Etienne Capoue to Arsenal

Arsenal were one of a host of teams linked with a January move for Toulouse’s French international holding midfielder and he would have been a perfect addition at the Emirates Stadium.

That did not come off – as didn’t potential moves to Tottenham or Everton – but the tough tackling 24-year-old is expected to make the switch to join Arsenal in the summer for around £7million and will be a welcome boost.

13. Karim Benzema to Manchester City

A move that has surfaced only recently, Karim Benzema has joined the growing list of strikers targeted by Manchester City for summer transfers.

The 25-year-old French international is one of a number of candidates that manager Roberto Mancini wants to replace Mario Balotelli and Real Madrid could consider selling him as they prepare for a summer clear-out of their own.

12. Victor Valdes to Liverpool

Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes sparked a mad dash for his signature this summer when announcing he will not be renewing his contract at the Nou Camp when it expires at the end of next season.

Barcelona are now likely to sell the 31-year-old Spanish star at the end of the current campaign and Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City are all thought to be interested. Liverpool’s ability to do a swap deal involving Pepe Reina puts them in pole position.

11. Victor Wanyama to Manchester United

Celtic managed to keep hold on Kenyan enforcer Victor Wanyama in the January transfer window but he looks destined to leave the Scottish Premier League in the summer for upwards of £8million.

The 21-year-old holding midfielder is wanted by Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson to add a bit of steel to the Premier League leaders and it seems only a matter of time before the deal in concluded.

10. Tom Ince to Liverpool

This transfer was on and off throughout the January transfer window, but Liverpool pulled the plug on negotiations because of the rising asking price.

But 21-year-old Tom Ince, who Liverpool sold to Blackpool for just £250,000, should return to Anfield in the summer with Brendan Rodgers keen to have the England under-21 international back in the fold. With more time to discuss the complicated financial side the transfer should go through in the off season.

9. Edin Dzeko to Borussia Dortmund

Edin Dzeko is reported to be one of a number of players facing the axe at Manchester City as Robert Mancini prepares for a summer clear-out at the Etihad Stadium.

A super-sub this season, 26-year-old Dzeko’s Premier League career has never fully taken off since moving from the Bundesliga and that is where he would return with Borussia Dortmund wanting him to replace the Bayern Munich-bound Robert Lewandowski.

8. Leandro Damiao to Tottenham

Tottenham have failed in a deadline day moves for Brazilian star Leandro Damiao in both the summer and January, but they will return to attempt to seal the deal in the summer to end the hunt for a new striker.

The complicated third-party ownership of 23-year-old Internacional forward Leandro is what scuppered the deal, but Tottenham haven’t been fully put off just yet and he could yet be unveiled at White Hart Lane in the summer.

7. Asmir Begovic to Manchester United

Stoke City are not guaranteed to sell their number one goalkeeper Asmir Begovic in the summer despite the capture of £4million Jack Butland from Birmingham City.

But Manchester United are set to offer between £9million and £15million for the 25-year-old Bosnian international, who Sir Alex Ferguson has been impressed with and sees as the long-term answer to his goalkeeper conundrum rather than David De Gea.

6. Isco to Chelsea

Malaga’s 20-year-old playmaker Isco was expected to become a Chelsea player in the January transfer window, but the young Spaniard instead chose to sign a new deal with the La Liga side.

That is something of a red herring, however, as it only served to increase the release clause in his contract. Isco should still become Chelsea signing in the summer, potentially as a replacement for Frank Lampard whose future remains up in the air.

5. Stevan Jovetic to Arsenal

Arsenal are turned their attention to £25million forward Stevan Jovetic and made him their number one transfer target in the summer after ditching plans to return to sign Barcelona striker David Villa, who was wanted in January.

The 23-year-old Jovetic, a Montenegro international, is regarded as the new Robin Van Persie and, although he would represent a club record signing, Arsene Wenger is understood to keen to do a deal.

4. Marouane Fellaini to Chelsea

Marouane Fellaini’s £22million release clause in his contract was well documented in January, but Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City all opted against making a bid for the Everton midfielder.

It is Chelsea who are expected to be leading the way to sign the 25-year-old Belgian international in the summer with Fellaini’s goalscoring abilities the key ingredient identifying him as a potential replacement for Frank Lampard.

3. Edinson Cavani to Manchester City

The Uruguayan striker could cost as much as £55million, which is the release clause in his contract with Serie A side Napoli, but Manchester City have not been put off one bit.

They see the 25-year-old as a key ingredient in the restructuring of Roberto Mancini’s first-team squad which has already seen Mario Balotelli depart and Carlos Tevez and Edin Dzeko could be joining him. Cavani has admitted he is likely to leave Napoli in the summer too.

2. Gareth Bale to Real Madrid

Champions League qualification should secure Gareth Bale’s services at White Hart Lane for another season, according to Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas, but that is before Real Madrid have come calling.

A value of between £40million and £55million has been slapped on 23-year-old Bale’s head but that is unlikely to deter Real Madrid, who are set to revamp their squad after a disastrous season in La Liga.

1. Radamel Falcao to Paris Saint-Germain

Manchester City and Chelsea look destined to miss out on one of the world’s most highly sought after marksmen with Atletico Madrid’s Radamel Falcao expected to join Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.

The Colombian will definitely be leaving Atletico at the end of the current campaign and is wanted by the biggest clubs, but a pre-contract agreement is already understood to be in place for the transfer to PSG to go through.
