AC Milan star to stay at the San Siro.

Check in to Manchester City vs Chelsea

Arsenal and Manchester City’s hopes of prising Stephan El Shaarawy away from AC Milan have been hit by the news that the forward is set to sign a new contract at the San Siro.

El Shaarawy has been a focal point for AC Milan this season after the sale of Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Paris Saint-Germain, and the 20-year-old Italian has led the line successfully despite early season troubles for the San Siro club. He has scored 17 times in all competitions this season.

According to Talksport, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger had been impressed and was considering a move, while Manchester City had earmarked El Shaarawy as a potential summer signing as Roberto Mancini looks to reshape his squad at the Etihad Stadium.

But El Shaawary is set to put pen to paper on a new contract which will keep him at AC Milan until 2018 – ending any hope that Arsenal and Manchester City had of signing the young striker.

AC Milan have put a £35million price tag on El Shaawary’s head to head off any interest with the hope being he can form a long-lasting relationship with Mario Balotelli, who moved to the club in an initial £17million deal from Manchester City in January.
