Nou Camp side hope to do business with Emirates Stadium side this summer.
Barcelona want to sign Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen in the summer and are set to offer David Villa in exchange to secure the deal, according to the Sunday People.
The 27-year-old Vermaelen has endured a rollercoaster time at Arsenal since joining for £10million from Ajax in 2009, missing almost all of the 2010/11 season because of an Achilles injury before being named the club’s new captain this season when Robin Van Persie departed.
Barcelona see the Belgian international, who signed a new four-year deal at Arsenal in 2011, as an ideal candidate to slot into the defence at the Nou Camp as he can provide competition to Carlos Puyol and Gerard Pique as well as offer cover at left-back.
And they are ready to offer striker Villa as part of any deal with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger having been keen to do a £17million deal to sign the Spanish international during the January transfer window.
If Vermaelen, who Barcelona want to replace Eric Abidal with doubts still surrounding his health following a liver transplant, was to join La Liga champions-elect Barcelona, he would join former team-mates Cesc Fabregas and Alex Song at the Nou Camp.
