Five In, Five Out: Potential Chelsea Summer Transfer Plans

Stamford Bridge stars who should be offloaded and top quality additions the West London side should consider making.

Out

Fernando Torres

The Spanish striker has been an unmitigated £50million disaster at Chelsea, so much so he looks likely to leave Stamford Bridge this summer for only a percentage of the figure owner Roman Abramovich splash out on him. He has scored just 27 goals in 109 appearances in Chelsea blue.
No Chelsea manager has been able to get Torres back to his best, not even his former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez, and it seems only a matter of time before the World Cup and European Championship winner departs through the exit door.

Atletico Madrid are keen on signing their former star as part of a deal that takes Radamel Falcao the other way, while Inter Milan have also express an interest.

Radamel Falcao (Atletico Madrid)

Chelsea are one of a number of clubs vying for the signature of Atletico Madrid’s star man Radamel Falcao and hope to beat off competition from the likes of Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.

The Colombian international Falcao is one of Europe’s hottest properties and will cost £46million, the release clause figure in his contract, but Chelsea are determined to get their man and will use Fernando Torres as part of the deal.

Out

Frank Lampard

It has been the talk of Stamford Bridge all season, but Chelsea’s reluctance to handed Frank Lampard a new contract means he is destined to leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.

He is now Chelsea’s second leading scorer of all time but that has not stopped the club’s hierarchy from denying the England midfielder a new deal.

Lampard is now likely to head to the MLS to fill the boots left empty by David Beckham at Los Angeles Galaxy, with his contract including a three-month loan back to a European club every single season.

In

Marouane Fellaini (Everton)

Belgian international Marouane Fellaini is expected to leave Everton in the summer after it emerged during the January transfer window that there is a £23million release clause in his Goodison Park contract.

Chelsea are the most likely to capture the 25-year-old as they see him as a replacement for Frank Lampard, who is out of contract at the end of the current season, and are set for to offer the full £23million to activate his release clause.

There is rival interest from Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United but the lure of a big contract at Chelsea and the opportunity to replace Lampard means Fellaini is expected to sign on at Stamford Bridge in the summer.

Out

Florent Malouda

French international Florent Malouda has been left to train with the reserves and youth team all season after being left out of the club’s 25-man Premier League squad. And he will officially leave Chelsea at the end of the season when his contract expires.

The 32-year-old, who joined Chelsea from Lyon in a £13.5million deal in 2007, helped the club lift the Champions League last season under Roberto Di Matteo, but was made an outcast after refusing to sign a new contract.

He has not trained with the first-team all season and has not played a competitive game in his final 12 months at Stamford Bridge. Anzhi Makhachkala are expected to make a move to sign Malouda on a free transfer.

In

Isco (Malaga)

Spanish midfielder Isco was a strong target for Chelsea in the January transfer window, but he opted instead to sign a new contract with Malaga. In reality though, what that exercise was all about was getting the release clause in the young playmaker’s contract increase to maximise his value.

Isco is likely to leave Malaga in the summer and Chelsea should be targeting beating Barcelona and Real Madrid to his signature with both Spanish giants having expressed interest in one of the most talented youngsters in La Liga.

His new contract means that the transfer fee to activate his release clause now stands at £31million, but for that price you would be getting one of Europe’s most impressive midfield talents and one who has unlimited potential too. He is likely to follow Malaga manager Manuel Pellegrini to Chelsea.

Out

David Luiz

A talented footballer, he has struggled to come to terms with the kind of defensive work needed to be a Premier League success and there is a chance David Luiz will leave Chelsea in the summer.

The Brazilian international has been tried in a holding midfield role by Rafael Benitez and he has proved a relative success thanks to comfortableness on the ball. But with plenty of midfield newcomers likely to arrive in the summer the switch of positions could be shortlived.

And interest from Barcelona could well result in former Benfica defender Luiz being offloaded at the end of the season with a new manager set to be appointed at Chelsea.

In

Edinson Cavani

All the talk has been about Manchester City when it comes to possible destinations for Edinson Cavani, who is expected to leave Serie A side Napoli at the end of the season.

Paris Saint-Germain have entered the fray to sign the Uruguayan international forward, but Chelsea would be mad not to consider making a move for him given their current problems and lack of options in attack.

With Fernando Torres continually misfiring, looking a shadow of the player we once saw tear the Premier League up and likely to leave in the summer and Demba Ba the only other option having only recently joined from Newcastle, Cavani could provide some much needed goalscoring prowess. He would cost £54million to purchase, which is his release clause.

Out

Michael Essien

Former Chelsea’s number one holding midfielder, Michael Essien was allowed to leave on loan for the season this year and he has spent the campaign with Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid.

Although the Ghana star has not held down a regular berth in the Real Madrid side, he is unlikely to have a long-term future at Chelsea with no sign of a new deal. Following the influx of talented and significantly younger midfielders, he is likely to be allowed to leave for free in the summer.

He will be another member of the old guard waving goodbye to Stamford Bridge with Frank Lampard and Florent Malouda joining him in leaving the club.

In

Willian (Anzhi)

When Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich wants to get his man he usually does so and that certainly seems to be case when it comes to Brazilian Willian.

Chelsea missed out in January when Shaktar Donetsk sold him to Anzhi Makhachkala, but it is understood that politics were involved in that deal and Abramovich expects to get his man this summer for £35million.

The 24-year-old attacking midfielder would fill the void likely to be left by Frank Lampard perfectly and it seems that the Brazilian will eventually become a Chelsea player at a cost of £5million more than would have been the case in January.
