West Ham manager Sam Allardyce has been assured that his job at Upton Park is safe despite Paolo Di Canio being linked with replacing him.

Allardyce’s future at the club was cast into doubt when Di Canio walked out on League One Swindon Town this week, the Italian immediately being linked with a job at West Ham where he is idolised by the fans as a result of his spell as a player at Upton Park.

The availability of Di Canio, coupled with the fact Allardyce’s current contract with West Ham runs out in the summer, cast some doubt about the long-term managerial situation at the club, but co-owner David Gold tweeted fans that his “view is clear though – Big Sam is our man”.

Former Bolton, Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers boss Allardyce got West Ham back into the Premier League at the first time of asking and enjoyed a fine opening half to the current campaign. But things have turned a bit more sour in recent months with West Ham seven points above the drop zone.

West Ham have repeatedly said they  are not willing to discuss new deals with Allardyce or his coaching staff until Premier League football is secure, although Gold has quelled some of the speculation with his statement backing the current man in the post.
