Top 20 High Profile Transfers That Could Happen This Summer

Big money deals that could happen in the summer transfer window.

20. Stevan Jovetic to Arsenal

Branded the new Robin Van Persie, Arsenal have been linked with a £25million move for Fiorentina’s star Stevan Jovetic, who is one of the leading young lights in Serie A.

The 23-year-old Montenegro international forward was bought by Fiorentina for £8million and would cost a club record fee to bring to Arsenal – much bigger than the £15million splashed out to sign Andrei Arshavin.

But Arsene Wenger is said to keen to bring him to the Premier League as part of a rebuilding programme in the summer.

19. Andy Carroll to Newcastle United

Sent out on loan to West Ham this season, £33million flop Andy Carroll is set to end his Liverpool nightmare with a permanent move away from Anfield in the summer.

West Ham have an agreement in place as part of the loan deal that gives then first refusal on the England international striker, but there is no guarantee that Carroll will want to become a permanent addition at Upton Park.

Hometown club Newcastle United, who sold him to Liverpool, are set to offer him a return to St James’ Park.

18. Leandro Damiao to Tottenham

Tottenham have already tried twice to sign Brazilian striker Leandro Damiao but failed to conclude a deal either last summer or in the January transfer window.

His club Internacional are keen to do a deal with the White Hart Lane club and it has only been the third party ownership of the player that has scuppered the transfer talks with all parties unable to reach an agreement.

With more time in the summer, expect Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas to finally get his man who he wants to pair together with Jermain Defoe in attack.

17. Edin Dzeko to Borussia Dortmund

One of a number of potential casualties of Manchester City disappointing defence of their Premier League crown, Edin Dzeko is set to leave the Etihad Stadium at the end of the season.

The tall striker has been a bit of super sub this season with critical goals from the bench, but he appears to have been made a scapegoat by manager Roberto Mancini and will be one of a number of departures from the club.

Borussia Dortmund are keen to offer him a return to the Bundesliga as they look for an ideal replacement for Robert Lewandowski, who will be leaving the club at the end of the season.

16. Robert Lewandowski to Manchester United

Borussia Dortmund’s star striker Robert Lewandowski will be leaving the Bundesliga club at the end of the season – that is already known. But what isn’t known is where he will be heading.

A move across Germany to join Pep Guardiola and Bayern Munich is one possibility, as is the long rumoured move to the Premier League to join Manchester United.

The latter seems the most likely and Polish international Lewandowski will add another dimension to the strike force at Sir Alex Ferguson’s disposal to provide a frightening list of options along with Robin Van Persie, Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez.

15. Christian Eriksen to Liverpool

Danish star Christian Eriksen sparked a race for his signature when it was revealed he will not be signing a new contract at Ajax. And no fewer than four Premier League teams – Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham –are in the running to sign him.

Eriksen is one of the hottest properties in Europe and has been targeted by the Premier League quartet as well as Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich and La Liga champions-elect Barcelona for a summer move.

Still only 20, Eriksen comes with an asking price of upwards of £15million and it is Liverpool who are thought to be in pole position to land the playmaker in the summer.

14. Isco to Chelsea

Spanish midfielder Isco was a strong target for Chelsea in the January transfer window, but he opted instead to sign a new contract with Malaga. In reality though, what that exercise was all about was getting the release clause in the young playmaker’s contract increase to maximise his value.

Isco is likely to leave Malaga in the summer and Chelsea are expected to beat Barcelona and Real Madrid to his signature with both Spanish giants having expressed interest in one of the most talented youngsters in La Liga.

His new contract means that the transfer fee to activate his release clause now stands at £31million, but for that price Chelsea will be getting one of Europe’s most impressive midfield talents and one who has unlimited potential too.

13. Angel Di Maria to Manchester United

A star of the Real Madrid team, Argentine international wideman Angel Di Maria is expected to be one of the players sold in the summer following a dismal season in La Liga.

The former Benfica player is understood to have been touted around Europe’s biggest club’s and particularly to Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain, two club’s who would have no qualms in paying the asking price.

With doubts about the long-term future of Nani at Old Trafford, Di Maria would offer the perfect replacement and would represent decent value at around £20million given Real Madrid’s intention on selling.

12. Willian to Chelsea

When Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich wants to get his man he usually does so – as we saw when he bought Fernando Torres against the will of any manager – and that certainly seems to be case when it comes to Brazilian playmaker Willian.

Chelsea missed out in January when Shaktar Donetsk sold him to Anzhi Makhachkala, but it is understood that politics were involved in that deal and Abramovich expects to get his man this summer for £35million.

The 24-year-old attacking midfielder would fill the void likely to be left by Frank Lampard, who looks destined to leave on a free transfer, perfectly and it seems that the Brazilian will eventually become a Chelsea player at a cost of £5million more than would have been the case in January.

11. Luka Modric to Manchester City

Big things were expected of Luka Modric when he swapped Tottenham for Real Madrid last summer in a £33million deal, but things couldn’t have turned out much worse for the Croatian international midfielder.

Modric failed to make an impact, was voted the worst signing of the season and has been left warming the bench for Jose Mourinho’s team.

He is expected to return to the Premier League in the summer with Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City all interested. The latter are expected to secure his signature as a replacement for Samir Nasri who will be sold in the summer.

10. Mesut Ozil to Bayern Munich

Mesut Ozil has been a star of the Real Madrid team, providing the creative spark that has led to Cristiano Ronaldo’s goalscorer exploits.

But new Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola is set to tempt Ozil back to Germany, where he made his name with Werder Bremen, is the summer when he takes over the likely Bundesliga champions.

It will take some offer for Real Madrid to even consider selling Ozil, but with planned moves to sign Gareth Bale and David Silva they could just be tempted if Bayern Munich raise the stakes to £50million-plus.

9. Marouane Fellaini to Chelsea

Belgian international Marouane Fellaini is expected to leave Everton in the summer after it emerged during the January transfer window that there is a £23million release clause in his Goodison Park contract.

Chelsea are the most likely to capture the 25-year-old as they see him as a replacement for Frank Lampard, who is out of contract at the end of the current season, and are set for to offer the full £23million to activate his release clause.

There is rival interest from Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United but the lure of a big contract at Chelsea and the opportunity to replace Lampard means Fellaini is expected to sign on at Stamford Bridge in the summer.

8. David Villa to Arsenal

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger tried desperately to bring David Villa to the Emirates Stadium in the January transfer window, offering £17million to Barcelona to sign the Spanish international forward.

That offer was turned down, but a second attempt is expected in the summer when Barcelona are more likely to willing to part company with the World Cup and European Championship winner.

Thomas Vermaelen is wanted by Barcelona so some form of swap deal could leave to Arsenal getting their man, who could be just the boost Arsene Wenger needs to appease the growing discontent amongst the Arsenal faithful after another season without a trophy – barring a Champions League miracle comeback.

7. David Silva to Real Madrid

Real Madrid are set to offer Manchester City playmaker David Silva the chance to return to Spain in the summer after making him their top transfer target.

Spanish international Silva is seen as the man to help Real Madrid bounce back from a disastrous season having been an integral part of the Manchester City success story in recent seasons since moving to the Etihad Stadium from Valencia in 2010.

Real Madrid are preparing an offer of around £35million and expect Silva to move to the Bernabeu as a potential replacement for Mesut Ozil if he is allowed to leave Real Madrid to join Bayern Munich.

6. Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United

Not many players leave Barcelona in their prime, but Alexis Sanchez could just do that this summer with Manchester United preparing a £26million offer for the forward.

The Chilean international has not been in his best form this season, certainly not matching his first-season exploits at the Nou Camp, and Barcelona could be ready to cash in on the 24-year-old former Udinese player.

Sanchez would give United added options in wide areas, an area they have suffered injuries this season with Ashley Young and Nani, and would be an excellent summer addition to an already impressive squad.

5. Edinson Cavani to Manchester City

It seems inevitable that Edinson Cavani will be playing Premier League football next season with Chelsea and Manchester City vying to sign Uruguayan international striker Edinson Cavani from Italian side Serie A Napol.

City have targeted Cavani, who could cost as much as the £52million release clause figure in his contract, as the man to revitalise the club following a disappointing season in defence of their Premier League title.

With Mario Balotelli gone and Carlos Tevez and Edin Dzeko potentially following him through the exit door at the Etihad Stadium, Cavani could be the man to form a partnership with Sergio Aguero in attack – unless Chelsea have the funds to scupper a deal.

4. Radamel Falcao to Chelsea

There have been suggestions from Spanish media that a deal is in place for Atletico Madrid forward Radamel Falcao to join Chelsea in the summer, and there is every likelihood that a deal could yet happen.

The Colombian, who is understood to be learning to speak English, would be an ideal addition to replace the misfiring Fernando Torres in attack at Chelsea. There is the possibility of Torres heading in the opposition direction as part of swap deal to return to the club where he started his career.

Falcao is one of Europe’s most sought-after strikers with Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona all having been linked with a move for him. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, meanwhile, is not ruling out an £80million swoop. But it could be the blue of Chelsea he is wearing next season.

3. Gareth Bale to Real Madrid

The star of the Premier League season, Gareth Bale has single-handedly dragged Tottenham to victories on more than one occasion and Real Madrid want to make him their marquee summer signing.

It will cost up to £50million to persuade Tottenham to part company with the Welsh international, who has showed his class in both a wide role and out wide. His free-kicks have been likened to Cristiano Ronaldo and it could be the Portuguese star he replaces at Real Madrid.

Bale’s signature is crucial to Real Madrid president Florentino Perez’s hopes of being re-elected in the summer so this one is likely to happen despite competition from Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain to sign him.

2. Luis Suarez to Manchester City

The main man at Liverpool along with Steven Gerrard, the Anfield Road club could have been in a lot of trouble this season but for Luis Suarez’s goals.

And that hasn’t gone unnoticed by Manchester City who are preparing a big money summer transfer bid for a player who manager Roberto Mancini rates highly. The Etihad Stadium club are set to test the resolve of both Liverpool and Suarez with an offer of upwards of £40million.

Should he move to Manchester City, Suarez could well link up with his Uruguayan international team-mate Edinson Cavani who is also a transfer target for the reigning Premier League champions. Bayern Munich are also interested in signing Suarez though.

1. Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United

Following Real Madrid’s Champions League clash with his former club, Cristiano Ronaldo acknowledged that he owed Manchester United and Sir Alex Ferguson a debt of gratitude for making him the player he is.

That repayment could well come in the summer if he leaves the Bernabeu and returns to Old Trafford in a rumoured £55million transfer deal.

Ronaldo has also been linked with a move to big-spending French side Paris Saint-Germain, but it seems he is destined to return to Manchester before his career is over and it could well happen in the summer as he is unhappy with life at Real Madrid.
