West Ham manager Sam Allardyce has been promised a new contract if he steers the club to Premier League safety, The Sun report.

Allardyce is out of contract in the summer and the club’s owners have yet to open up discussions over new terms. His future at West Ham was cast into doubt when Di Canio walked out on League One Swindon Town, the Italian immediately being linked with a job at West Ham where he is idolised by the fans as a result of his spell as a player at Upton Park.

But co-owners David Gold and David Sullivan are keen to keep Allardyce, who steered the club back into the Premier League at the first time of asking last season, at the helm to ensure some stability at Upton Park.

West Ham enjoyed a fine opening half to the current campaign, but things have turned a bit more sour in recent months with West Ham just six points above the drop zone.

But The Sun report that Allardyce, the former Bolton, Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers boss, has been promised a new contract once the threat of relegation back to The Championship is overcome.

The newspaper quote an Upton Park source as saying: “If the club stays up, Sam will be offered a new deal. He will have brought us up in a season and kept us up — it gets no better than that.

“The club needs stability and he will have brought that. Another two years of the same kind of progress is exactly what’s required. However, if we were relegated he would have to accept a big pay cut and that probably wouldn’t be acceptable.”
