Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers traveled to Holland to run a scouting mission ahead of a possible summer bid for Feyenoord captain Stefan de Vrij according to the Daily Mail.

The highly rated 21 year old has been on the Anfield radar for some time but perhaps the personal trip by the Liverpool boss shows just how seriously the Merseyside club are considering a bid for the young centre-back, who is seen as a possible successor to Jamie Carragher, who will retire from the game at the end of the current campaign.

De Vrij has just 18 months to run on his current contract and therefore his Rotterdam employers may choose to sell the youngster this summer in preference to a possible free transfer departure at the end of next season.

Though De Vrij only turned 21 earlier this month he has still racked up over 100 Feyenoord appearances and has three Dutch national team caps to his name.

Given Sebastian Coates is still to make an impact and Daniel Agger’s well documented injury concerns there may well be a need to bring in more than just one defensive signing this summer.
