The 27 year old Atletico Madrid man is said to be likely to leave the Vicente Calderon side this summer with the forward’s release clause set at €60m (£51.9m). It was thought that city rivals Real Madrid were pushing on with a move for the former FC Porto man but the player’s wage demands appear to have scared off the Bernabeu side.
Falcao is demanding a post-tax salary of €10m (£8.6m) but under Spain’s current tax guidelines such a move would require Real Madrid to offer a pre-tax salary of €20m, which would eclipse the deal Cristiano Ronaldo is currently receiving, due chiefly to the fact that his wage package was agreed before the chance in tax laws in the country.
It’s a deal that the Bernabeu side are seemingly unwilling to come up with which leaves Chelsea with a good shot at luring the La Liga goal machine to Stamford Bridge this summer.
Roman Abramovich would presumably more than willing to meet Falcao’s wage demands as he looks to bring in an effective striking options to boost the Blues squad.
Such a move may become even more likely if the West London side decide to cut their losses with Spanish flop Fernando Torres, indeed should the Russian billionaire look to give up on the former Liverpool man he could try to use the former Atletico Madrid man as a makeweight in any deal that would see Falcao move to the Premier League side.
Falcao scored 36 goals in his first season at Atletico Madrid and has amassed 27 goals in 28 matches in all competitions thus far this season.
