Top Ten Premier League Stars Who Could Be Set for European Moves This Summer

Ten top talents who could leave the English top tier for the big guns on the continent.

10. Bacary Sagna

There have been suggestions all season that this could be Bacary Sagna’s last at the Emirates Stadium and it appears that the full-back will be leaving Arsenal in the summer.

The French international is destined for a return back to Ligue 1 after six seasons in north London having joined for €11 million from Auxerre back in 2007.

He has never won a trophy during his time at Arsenal but looks to join France’s biggest team at present with big-spending Paris Saint-Germain set to sign him at the end of the season.

9. Samir Nasri

Just two seasons after joining Manchester City from Arsenal in a £25million deal, midfielder Samir Nasri looks destined to be on his way out of the Etihad Stadium at the end of the season as part of a major clear-out.

Nasri has come under heavy criticism this season for his displays with City manager Roberto Mancini claiming he was playing at 50 per cent and reacting angrily to the French international hiding behind a team-mate during the Manchester derby defeat.

He is expected to be one of 10 players leaving City in the summer and could join Monaco, who are on course to be promoted back to the French top-flight in a double deal with team-mate Carlos Tevez.

8. Edin Dzeko

Another likely departure from Manchester City in an end of season clear-out, Edin Dzeko is set to return to the Bundesliga after two-and-a-half seasons in the Premier League.

Dzeko, who joined in a £27million deal from Wolfsburg in 2011, helped fire City to the Premier League title last season but has had to make do with a bit-part role this campaign, earning the super-sub role thanks to his crucial goals from the bench.

He is wanted by current German champions Borussia Dortmund as a replacement for Robert Lewandowski, who is set to join either Manchester United or Bayern Munich, and is expected to return to the Bundesliga.

7. David Luiz

Brazilian defender David Luiz was a £25million capture from Benfica when joining Chelsea in 2011 and has been a regular in the side this season, whether at centre-back or in central midfield.

The shaggy-haired Luiz knows how to pick a pass or dribble out of defence, as you might expect of a Brazilian, but has never 100 per cent convinced that the Premier League is suited to him and vice versa.

But that has not stopped Barcelona wanting to sign Luiz, who they see as the ideal long-term replacement for Carlos Puyol in defence. The fact that the player himself has declared an interest in moving to La Liga means this one might just happen.

6. Nani

With Nani’s contract situation rumbling on, it is growing increasingly likely that his career at Manchester United could be coming to an end this summer.

The Portuguese winger has yet to agree new terms with the Old Trafford club and will have just one year left on his contract at the end of the season, leaving United with little choice but to cash in on him.

Nani has been linked with a move to Real Madrid and that could well happen in a summer of rebuilding at the Bernabeu. He could yet be used as a makeweight in a deal that sees Cristiano Ronaldo return to United.

5. David De Gea

Throughout the January transfer window, David De Gea was making the headlines – or at least his future at Manchester United filled the column inches.

The young Spaniard was linked with moves to both Barcelona and Real Madrid, and with doubts surrounding the goalkeeping situation at both clubs he could well be on his way back to La Liga if they come calling.

United are considering moves for a host of goalkeepers including Liverpool’s Pepe Reina, Barcelona’s Victor Valdes and Simon Mignolet and Asmir Begovic of Sunderland and Stoke City. There tends to be no smoke without fire, so it seems highly likely that De Gea could be leaving.

4. Fernando Torres

A £50million flop, Fernando Torres’ horror time at Chelsea is to come to an end this summer with a move away from the Premier League.

What begin with goals galore at Liverpool is likely to end with a whimper and terrible form at Chelsea with several Stamford Bridge managers unable to bring out the best of Torres that we saw when he burst onto the scene at Anfield.

His former club Atletico Madrid are keen to take him back to Spain – most likely as part of the deal that will see Radamel Falcao join Chelsea, while Fiorentina are offering him a route out with a move to Italy.

3. Carlos Tevez

Carlos Tevez may well be back in favour at Manchester City after last season’s troubles with boss Roberto Mancini, but his time at the club should come to end this summer.

There will be just 12 months left to run on his contract at the end of the season and, with the Argentine forward planning to run down his deal rather than sign a new one, City are expected to cash in on him at the end of the season.

Although Tevez was targeting a move back to Argentina, it could be Monaco where he starts the new season with the French league club, who are destined for promotion back to Ligue 1, preparing a double swoop for the striker and team-mate Samir Nasri.

2. David Silva

Losing their most creative player would be a major blow to take for Manchester City, but they could be facing up to that very situation with David Silva a wanted man.

It is Real Madrid who have put Spanish international Silva at the top of their wanted list and the pull of the Bernabeu might be too much to turn down.

Silva, who joined City from Valencia three years ago, is arguably City’s best player and signed a new five-year deal earlier in the season. But Real Madrid have set their sights on bringing him in to revive the club’s fortunes.

1. Gareth Bale

Tottenham’s in-form winger Gareth Bale is a man in demand with Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain joining Real Madrid in the race for his signature.

Bale has played down the likelihood of leaving White Hart Lane at the end of the season but, with bids of around £50million reported to be on the cards from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, Tottenham may not be able to refuse.

Real Madrid are leading the race with Bale potentially signing on at the Bernabeu as a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo should he the Spanish capital in the summer.
