The West London side are desperately looking to improve their average strike-force and Roman Abramovich is ready to push forward with a big money move for in-form Colombian Falcao.
The Blues are ready to offer the 27 year old striker a four year deal that would see the former FC Porto man handed £10m a year, on top of this the Stamford Bridge side would have to fork out the €60m (£51.9m) needed to trigger the striker’s release clause.
Given that Abramovich was willing to pay £50m for Fernando Torres, who hasn’t even come close to justifying the fee, it seems likely that the Russian billionaire would be willing to meet Atletico’s asking price given the excellent form Falcao has been in over the past 18 months in La Liga.
Abramovich may well be keen to bring in a ‘Marquee’ signing this summer to make up for what has thus far been a terrible season. There seems every chance that Chelsea will look to offset any move for Falcao by trying to garner some sort of fee from the sale of Torres, who hasn’t scored in his last 11 Premier League appearances.
Falcao has scored 63 goals in 78 appearances for Atletico Madrid since his move to the Vicente Calderon in August 2011.
