Top Ten Best Players of the 2012/13 Premier League Season

The ten best players of the current campaign. Who gets your vote?

In alphabetical order here are our ten nominees for the Premier League player of the season award.

Leighton Baines (Everton)

The Toffess full-back makes it into our eleven due to his high level of consistency. The 28 year old is comfortable in defence and a hugely important part of the Everton attack.

The set-piece specialist is always on hand to provide assists and has also netted seven goals to boot. The Everton man is now running Ashley Cole very close for the England starting spot, and deservedly so.

Gareth Bale (Tottenham)

Could well be one of the leaders in our poll the Tottenham man has been in magical form this term. The 23 year old is having his most effective season since his move to White Hart Lane.

The White Hart Lane wide-man has 21 goals to his name in all competition and Andre Villas-Boas must fear that one of Europe’s ‘Elite’ will nab Bale this summer, though clearly if Tottenham secure a Champions League berth there is less reason for such a move to take place.

Santi Cazorla (Arsenal)

Spaniard has been an impressive start to life in the English top tier and one of the few bright spots of an otherwise poor season for the Emirates Stadium side.

The former Malaga man has racked up 11 goals in six assists in Premier League action alone and will hope to produce more quality in the push to land Arsenal a top four finish.

Jonny Evans (Man United)

Previously much maligned the Northern Irishman has been hugely consistent this term. The Man United defence has been shaky but Evans has proved more than capable at the back.

In his 17 Premier League starts Man United have won 15 and lost just once and kept seven clean sheets in the process.

Juan Mata (Chelsea)

The efforts of the pint sized Spaniard has in many ways gone unnoticed outside Stamford Bridge due to the club’s generally disappointing showing this term.

However no one else has registered more Premier League assists than Mata, who has also managed to hit the back of the net on 17 occasions in all competitions.

Michu (Swansea City)

Undoubtedly the bargain buy of the summer the Swansea City man has more than paid back the £1.6m investment made in him by his South Wales employers.

The former Rayo Vallecano has set the Premier League alight with his bright attacking play, scoring 15 goals already, plus another three in the club’s successful Capital One Cup run.

Luis Suarez (Liverpool)

Uruguayan has been near unplayable for defenders this season, scoring goals aplenty and proving himself a real handful throughout the season.

The former Ajax man is in rich vein of form and has scored 22 goals to lead the Premier League goal-scoring charts, including five in his last three top tier fixtures.

Robin Van Persie (Man United)

The Dutchman was always going to score goals at Man United and his form this term has been hugely important given the general defensive issues Sir Alex Ferguson’s side experienced for much of the campaign.

The former Arsenal man has 19 goals and eight assists from his 28 appearances, form that has been crucial to Man United’s likely Premier League title triumph.

Jan Vertonghen (Tottenham)

Whether at left-back or centre-back the Belgian has been a commanding presence in the Tottenham defence. The former Ajax man has adapted swiftly to life in the Premier League and certainly deserves his place on a list of top performers of the season.

Vertonghen is a great reader of the game and his bursts from defence have also shown his attacking side, has five goals to his name this season already.

Pablo Zabaleta (Man City)

Argentine has been Man City’s best player this term, taking the right-back spot for his own despite stiff competition.

The 28 year old’s strong running, never say die attitude has made him even more of a fans favourite and at times he has been handed the captain’s armband and shown great character in what has at times been a problematic campaign for the Etihad Stadium club.
