Brighton Boss Gus Poyet In Contention For Vacant Reading Manager Post

Uruguayan boss reportedly interested in becoming the new Royals boss.

Brighton’s Gus Poyet has emerged as a potential candidate for the vacant managerial post at Reading according to The Daily Mail.

The Royals are looking for a new boss after parting ways with Brian McDermott on Tuesday and have been linked with a number of high profile names, including former Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo and ex-Swindon boss Paolo Di Canio.

Sources close to Poyet have said the Uruguayan would consider taking up the vacant hot-seat, provided he was part of a long-term vision for the club.

Reading are desperate to stay in the Premier League but with Brighton currently fighting to reach the Championship play-offs, Poyet is reportedly uninterested in the position should he be likely to get the sack if Reading are subsequently relegated.

The former Chelsea and Tottenham star has won a lot of admirers in the game for the way he has turned Brighton into a side competing for promotion into the Premier League and is reportedly keen to move closer to the capital.

Reading are reportedly keen to install a new manager swiftly and so the move may depend on the ability of the club to agree a compensation package with Brighton.

Di Canio currently remains the bookies’ favourite to land the post.
