However, David Moyes faces stiff competition if he is to land his man as the likes of cross city rivals Liverpool are supposedly keen too. Several Italian club are also thought to be keeping tabs on him with Lazio having made enquiries and Fiorentina interested in as they prepare themselves for incoming bids for Stevan Jovetic.

Moyes sees the 41 cap international as an ideal replacement for Marouane Fellaini who looks braced to join Chelsea at the end of the season, and any money received from that sale is believed to go straight back into the squad.

Honda has continued to earn admirers with fine performances for club and country since catching the world’s eye during the South Africa World Cup in 2010. He was also named as ‘Most Valuable Player’ at the AFC Asian Cup in 2011.

Currently with nine goals in 22 appearances for CSKA this season, he would represent a real coup for David Moyes’ men, especially after recent speculation about the manager’s future ambitions have come into question.
