The Old Trafford outfit have been linked with interest in the Colombian for some months and this source believes that Sir Alex Ferguson’s side have made their intentions known with an offer that has apparently been rejected by the Portuguese side.
Ferguson may well feel the need to bring in alternative wide attacking options given that Nani and Ashley Young have failed to make a consistent impact on the flanks.
Young and Luis Antonio Valencia have failed to register a single Premier League goal between them this term and this has led to the club’s strike-force having to bear the weight of the goal-scoring burden a little too much and the Man United boss has scouted Rodriguez on a number of occasions this season with a view to landing the in-form FC Porto man.
Rodriguez helped FC Porto to back to back domestic titles in his first two seasons at the Estadio Dragao and has racked up eight goals in 16 Primeira Liga appearances during the current campaign.
Sir Alex Ferguson is clearly a fan of shopping for talent in the Portuguese top tier and may well consider making an improved bid for Rodriguez in the summer.
