Manchester City Linked With Interest In £13m Rated Serie A Starlet Striker

Etihad Stadium side keen on young Serie A striker.

Manchester City are set to do battle with Italian giants Napoli in the race for Sampdoria star Mauro Icardi’s signature.

However, the 20-year-old won’t come cheap according to the Express as Samp have slapped a £13 million price tag on their prized asset.

Icardi is enjoying his breakthrough season with the Serie A side has so far bagged nine goals in 23 appearances with clubs both in England and Italy keeping a close eye on his progress.

Napoli are keen on bringing him to the San Paolo to partner up with Edinson Cavani, whilst City are seeking a replacement for the recently departed Mario Balotelli, and with the future of Edin Dzeko still uncertain, City could step up their pursuit for a new striker.

Sampdoria know how much he means to the team, though. Sporting director Carlo Osti said recently; We’ll evaluate Icardi’s future in June, however, his representative has turned down our attempts to extend his current agreement – one which I considered was more than dignified.”

Icardi grabbed the headlines in January when he bagged a brace in a 2-1 win over league leaders Juventus. A fortnight later he slotted four goals past Pescara in a 6-0 win. Since then he’s enjoyed an extended run in the team as his lethal finishing ability has helped the port city club climb away from the relegation zone.
