Liverpool are confident they can lure Aston Villa striker Andreas Weimann to Anfield this summer according to the Metro.

Brendan Rodgers is apparently a big admirer of the young attacker who is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal, leaving the Villa Park side vulnerable to bids from prospective interested parties. Indeed Liverpool believe they could snap up the 21 year old for as little as £5m as the player will have just a year to run on his current deal come the summer.

Weimann has had a breakthrough season this term, one of the few bright spots in an otherwise terrible campaign from the Midlands side and even if Aston Villa beat the drop the former Rapid Vienna youth team player may still be tempted by a move to the Merseyside club.

Rodgers could certainly do with some fresh attacking options even though Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez have struck up quite a rapport already. Any move for Weimann may well be with a view to offloading Italian Fabio Borini, who has struggled with form and fitness and is still awaiting his first Premier League goal.

Weimann has twice turned down Aston Villa contract offers and the adaptable forward, who can play out wide, in a floating role, or up front, is high up on the Liverpool summer wish-list.

The Aston Villa man netted against Liverpool and has managed 11 goals in all competitions this term, including impressively goals against both Arsenal and Man United.
