Chelsea are set to make a summer move for Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema.

The Real Madrid striker has been strongly linked with a move away from the Spanish giants this summer.

The La Liga side are thought to be considering using Benzema as a makeweight in any potential deal for Tottenham’s Gareth Bale or Napoli’s Edinson Cavani.

That, as well as speculation linking Madrid with Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero, has persuaded Benzema his future lies elsewhere.

Chelsea are in the market for a striker after finally running out of patience with misfiring Spaniard Fernando Torres.

The forward has failed to replicate his form for Liverpool and has struggled with the pressure of living up to a £50 million price tag.

A new striker has become a top priority for the club but the Stamford Bridge outfit are keen to gain input from their new permanent manager before agreeing any deals.

Reports in recent weeks have suggested that preliminary talks between Mourinho and Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich went well and the ‘Special One’ is to return to Stamford Bridge this summer.

That could pave the way for Benzema’s move to the Premier League as Mourinho is known to be a fan of the French forward and it is thought his style of play would be well suited to Premier League football.
