The Best XI In World Football In 2012/13

The best of the best for the current season.

Goalkeeper: Thibaut Courtois (Atletico Madrid)

Loaned out Chelsea keeper has been in phenomenal form for Atletico Madrid, helping the Spanish side to secure the best defensive record in La Liga.

Left-Back: Leighton Baines (Everton)

Creator in chief for Everton, a player who is solid at the back and an excellent contributor going forward. The most important man in David Moyes’ squad and good enough to keep out Europe’s ‘Elite’ in this XI.

Brazilian has been a rock at the heart of the PSG defence, more than justifying the huge expense the Parc des Princes side invested in the powerful centre-back.

Centre-Back: Thiago Silva (PSG)

Centre-Back: Giorgio Chiellini (Juventus)

Juventus have conceded a miserly 19 goals in 30 Serie A matches this term and that is down in no small part to the Italian international who has been superb this term.

Right-Back: Philipp Lahm (Bayern Munich)

German full-back has been around for some time but is arguably in the best form of his career to date. Breaks forward with real purpose and is rarely caught in possession or out of position.

Left Wing: Gareth Bale (Tottenham)

Welsh winger has been hugely impressive this term and is a player who’s stock is rising on an almost daily basis, scoring goals with alarming ease, and spectacular ones to boot.

Central Midfield: Bastian Schweinsteiger (Bayern Munich)

Midfield general has been a the guiding force behind Jupp Heyneckes side’s imminent Bundesliga title success and quite possibly a Champions League triumph as well.

Right Wing: Andres Iniesta (Barcelona)

The Spanish international is expected to put in outstanding performances on a weekly basis and the Nou Camp hero duly delivers. Top assist maker in La Liga.

Left Attack: Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid)

Real Madrid man continues to score at will and has saved perhaps his best form for the Champions League, with the Portuguese international being the top scorer in the competition this term.

Striker: Lionel Messi (Barcelona)

Argentine continues to break records and his most recent achievement, scoring in 19 consecutive La Liga matches, is perhaps his greatest yet.

Right Attack: Luis Suarez (Liverpool)

Uruguayan is perhaps not the best loved footballer in the game, outside Anfield that is, but their is simply no doubting his ability. The Liverpool man has been near unplayable this season and leads the Premier League goal-scoring charts despite playing for a side outside the top six.
