Liverpool Revive Interest In Lazio Defender Modibo Diakite

Brendan Rodgers keen to bring centre back to Anfield.

Liverpool are set to make a move for Lazio defender Modibo Diakite according to talkSport.

Diakite is out of contract at the end of the season and was widely expected to move to Serie A side Napoli.

But negotiations with the Italian giants have reportedly broken down and that could pave the way for Diakite to move to Anfield.

Liverpool were thought to have been interested in the player’s signature earlier in the year, only to pull out of talks after it appeared the player was certain to sign for Napoli.

But Brendan Rodgers is now ready to swoop in and steal Diakite from under the Italian side’s noses.

Brendan Rodgers is keen to bring in defensive reinforcements this summer as he prepares for life without the retiring Jamie Carragher. With the future of Martin Skrtel also remaining uncertain, Rodgers is thought to have made a centre-back one of his top summer priorities.

But Rodgers has found himself limited in what he is able to do after the Liverpool hierarchy informed him he will have just £20 million to spend on new signings this summer. Rodgers is keen to bring in three or four new players so is keen to bring Diakite on a free transfer in order to free up his limited funds for signings in other positions.

Livepool will have to move quickly thought with the likes of Tottenham, Fiorentina and AC Milan all thought to be interested in the 26 year old defender.
