Rise And Fall of Portsmouth FC: 10 Years in Pictures

Promotion, Relegation, FA Cup, Europe and administration – a look back at an eventful 10 years a Portsmouth Football Club.

1. Harry Redknapp appointed manager 2002

Having been Director of Football at Portsmouth since 2001, Harry Redknapp took over as manager in March 2002, replacing Graham Rix. He helped the club to 17th place in Division One, narrowly avoiding relegation.
2. Promotion to Premier League 2003

Just a year later, Redknapp guides Portsmouth to the Premier League as winners of Division One.
3. FA Cup win

The good times continue for Pompey, and signings such as Kanu, Sol Campbell and Lassana Diarra help with them to their famous FA Cup win in 2008.
4. First European match

18th September 2008: Portsmouth play their first European match with a 2-0 first leg win over Victoria Guimaraes in the UEFA Cup.
5. Draw with AC Milan

27th November 2009: The UEFA Cup run continues as Portsmouth play out a thrilling 2-2 draw with Italian giants AC Milan at Fratton Park.
6. Going into administration

Portsmouth Chief Executive Peter Storrie faces the fans after growing unrest as financial problems kick in. Eventually the club is forced to go into administration on the 26th of February 2010.
7. Relegation from the Premier League

Things go from bad to worse for Pompey, despite reaching the FA Cup final again, as they are relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2009/10 season.

8. Relegation to League 1

21st April 2012: A 2-1 defeat to Derby County condemns Portsmouth to relegation to League One, their first time playing at that level for 30 years.
9. Fans take over club

10th April 2013: An agreement is reached between Portsmouth Supporters’ Trust and the administrators for fans to take control of the club, saving them from possible expulsion from the Football League.
10. Relegation to League 2

20 games without a win means Portsmouth last just one season in League One, and are relegated again on the 16th of April 2013.
