One of the most experienced members of the Chelsea squad, as well as one of the few title winners remaining from Jose Mourinho’s time at the club, Cech could be the ideal candidate to lead this increasingly young and ever-changing team.

Cahill was vice captain at Bolton and is an experienced England international. Perhaps not the most vocal of players, but certainly one to lead by example. The 27-year-old will replace Terry’s presence at the back and could do so as skipper as well.

The eccentric Brazilian may not seem an obvious choice, but as vice captain for his national team he has worn the armband for Brazil on occasion, which is no mean feat. A popular character in the dressing room, the 25-year-old could grow into his role as skipper and lead the Blues for many years to come.

The most natural replacement for Terry would surely be Ashley Cole, though his future at the club also remains unclear. The vastly experienced England international was tipped to be the next Arsenal captain during his time there, and would surely be one of the most senior players at Stamford Bridge with Terry and Frank Lampard gone.
