Top Five Strikers To Replace Wayne Rooney At Manchester United

With Rooney linked to PSG and Barcelona, who could replace the England star at Old Trafford?

1. Radamel Falcao

United have been linked with a sensational swoop for Atletico Madrid star Falcao, who has lit up La Liga with his performances this season, scoring 24 goals in 28 league games. The Colombian is also being chased by Chelsea and Real Madrid, but the sale of Rooney would certainly help fund the move.

2. Burak Yilmaz

The Galatasary striker has caught the eye in the Champions League this season, scoring 8 goals in 9 games for the Turkish club. His performances in the league have been strong as well, and manager Fatih Terim admits he doesn’t hold out much hope for keeping his star player at the club. United may face competition from Liverpool for his signature.

3. Robert Lewandowski

The Polish striker has had another great year in the Bundesliga with Dortmund. Although he has not been able to help his club to a third successive title, he is the top scorer in Germany with 22 goals. He was linked with United last year, before they opted to sign Robin van Persie from Arsenal. Ferguson might look at him again, though he would face competition from Bayern Munich, who are now favourites to land the 24-year-old.

4. Mario Gomez

If Lewandowski were to join Bayern, that would certainly free up Mario Gomez, who has not been a regular for the club this season. The Germany international has only made 16 appearances in the Bundesliga this season, scoring eight goals. However, his quality should not be forgotten, as he found the back of the net 41 times in the previous campaign. The 27-year-old would be a great option for Fergie, especially as he might be available on the cheap.

5. Karim Benzema

Another quality player who has suffered a bit of a dip in form is Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema. The French hitman has fallen out of favour with Jose Mourinho and it wouldn’t be surprising if he fancied a move after four years at the Bernabeu. If there’s anyone who can help the former Lyon striker rediscover his best form it’s Ferguson.
