Arsenal enter preliminary talks with Nou Camp favourite.
Arsenal have begun talks with want away Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes, according to The Express.
The 31-year-old is out of contract next summer and has expressed a desire to move on and experience new challenges, opting to leave at the end of this season rather than wait for his contract to run down.
He has been at Barcelona for his entire career, making his debut in 2002, though he has announced his admiration for English football several times over the course of the past 11 years.
And Arsenal have set the wheels in motion to put his words into practice by contacting the players agent, Gines Carvaja, over a move that could cost as little as £4.25 million. Barcelona see that figure at closer to £10 million, but the North Londoners believe they can haggle the price down due to Valdes’ contract situation.
The Gunners have been in the market for some time now as boss, Arsene Wenger, appears to have lost faith in Wojciech Szczesny, whom he publicly criticised earlier this year.
Wenger has since used Lukasz Fabianksi as his first choice number one, though he feels they will both be better suited to featuring as understudies to the Spanish International.
