Five Realistic Liverpool Targets Who Could Help Reds Secure Top Four Prize

A look at five realistic transfer targets that could lift Liverpool into the Champions League places.

5. Ashley Williams (Swansea City)

The Swansea centre-back has had a strong season with the Welsh club, leading his side to glory in the Capital One Cup and looking like securing a top half finish. Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers knows Williams well from his time at the Liberty Stadium and is reportedly keen to be reunited with him. With Jamie Carragher set to retire at the end of this season, a defender of Williams’ quality would be a very useful addition at Anfield as they look to push for a higher finish in the table.

4. David Villa (Barcelona)

The Barcelona forward is likely to leave the Nou Camp at the end of the season after falling out of favour with boss Tito Vilanova. The 32-year-old has still shown he has an eye for goal though, and would give Liverpool more options upfront than just Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge. Although not a long-term option, he could have a good year or two left in him to help the Reds into the top four.

3. Michel Vorm (Swansea City)

Another possible player that Brendan Rodgers could look to raid from his old club. Michel Vorm has attracted interest from numerous top clubs for his performances for Swansea, with Barcelona and Arsenal also keen on his services. But Liverpool need a better option in goal than Pepe Reina and Vorm would certainly be a significant upgrade. Where Reina’s mistakes have proven costly, Vorm’s ability to make game-changing saves could be a key ingredient in Liverpool climbing the table.

2. Tom Ince (Blackpool)

One of the best pieces of business Liverpool could do this summer is bring back former youngster Tom Ince, who has gone on to show real potential in the Championship with Blackpool. The son of former Red and England midfielder Paul, Ince has shown himself to have great skill and pace on the wings, as well as an eye for goal. They may have competition for the exciting young talent, but it is believed that Ince himself would favour a return to Anfield.

1. Xabi Alonso (Real Madrid)

The Liverpool legend would be a popular choice if he were to make his comeback for the club. Alonso is likely to leave Real Madrid at the end of the season and still has the quality to improve Liverpool’s current midfield. Chelsea are also interested, but the Reds may have the edge in luring their former hero back. With his range of passing and eye for the occasional spectacular goal, the Spaniard would surely improve the Anfield club’s fortunes.
