Manchester United Want £17m German International To Shore Up Midfield

Manchester United are being linked with yet another player from Borussia Dortmund, with the Daily Express claiming they will bid £17million for Ilkay Gundogan.

The Turkish-born German international has impressed for the Bundesliga outfit in a defensive midfield role this season, and Sir Alex Ferguson is keen to add a player with more defensive nous to his midfield. The Scottish manager also signed Shinji Kagawa from the same team last summer.

Michael Carrick has had a good season for the Premier League champions, but is more of a playmaker, while former Porto man Anderson has not lived up to his potential as a candidate for that role.

Gundogan could be one of many players to leave Dortmund this summer, with star player Mario Goetze already sealing a move to rivals Bayern Munich, and Robert Lewandowski widely tipped to follow him there.

As well as protecting the back four, Gundogan has chipped in with a few goals and assists this year, and is the latest in the line of talented young players coming through in German football.

Other stories report that Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp could be set for a move to Old Trafford in the future, as the club see him as a long-term successor to Ferguson.
