Chelsea and Atletico Madrid want Lyon star Lovren.
Chelsea will do battle with La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid for Lyon’s highly-rated defender Dejan Lovren, according to the Daily Express.
The young centre-back has caught the eye in the Europa League this season, putting in strong performances against Chelsea’s Premier League rivals Tottenham.
The 23-year-old would command a fee of around £8.5million from the Ligue 1 club, and may be an essential signing for the Blues, who could lose both John Terry and David Luiz from their back four at the end of the season.
Chelsea captain Terry, 32, is considering a new challenge after finding himself on the bench for a large chunk of the season under interim boss Rafael Benitez. And despite the fact that Benitez will be replaced by a new manager in the summer, Terry is tempted by a move to Turkish giants Galatasaray.
Meanwhile, Brazilian centre-back Luiz is a target for Barcelona. The Catalans are said to be lining up a bid of around £35million for Luiz, as they make defensive reinforcements a priority in the transfer market this summer.
Lovren would go some way to repairing the damage, and the Stamford Bridge club have also been linked with Schalke defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos.
