West Ham Target Aston Villa Keeper

Allardyce wants Guzan to switch claret & blue.

West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce has targeted Aston Villa goalkeeper Brad Guzan as his number one target this summer, according to The Sun.

The Hammers have already taken up the option to extend Jussi Jääskeläinen’s contract for another year but the inevitable ravages of time have begun to show on the Finn and Allardyce has targeted the American international as the ideal man to eventually take his place.

The 28-year-old has been in impressive form for Aston Villa this season and despite conceding 65 goals this season he tops the stats table with several aspects like saves in the box, successful high claims and accurate goal kicks.

He has been one of the most drastic improvements at the club since Paul LAmbert took over and managed to persuade him to re-sign for the Midlands side after former boss Alex McLeish decided to let him leave last summer. He quickly made the number one spot his own and has frozen out Irish international Shay Given in the process.

However, West Ham will find it difficult to convince Villa to let him go. Having signed for the club for £600,000 from MLS side Chivas USA in 2008, he has now seen his value rocket to £5 million, though Villa will demand significantly more as he still has two-and-a-half years left on his current deal.
