Top Five Candidates To Replace Jose Mourinho As Real Madrid Manager

A look at five candidates who could get the Real Madrid job next season.

5. Diego Simeone (Atletico Madrid)

A controversial one, but Argentinian tactician Diego Simeone has worked wonders with Real’s rivals Atletico in the last couple of years, delivering success in the Europa League and turning Madrid’s less fancied team into genuine La Liga title challengers.

4. Rafael Benitez (Chelsea)

Despite coming in in the middle of the season to much hostility, former Liverpool and Valencia boss Rafael Benitez has done well to guide Chelsea to the Europa League final and keep them in with a chance of third place in the Premier League. The under-rated Spaniard has generally brought success wherever he has gone and is also a target for PSG.

3. Arsene Wenger (Arsenal)

The long-standing Arsenal manager’s time at the club may be up after a recent lack of success, though the French tactician is still highly rated around the world. Linked many times with Real Madrid, now may be the ideal time for the Spanish giants to lure Arsene Wenger to the Bernebeu.

2. Carlo Ancelotti (PSG)

With Benitez likely to take over at PSG, Carlo Ancelotti is perhaps the favourite to take over as Real boss. The former Chelsea and AC Milan man has shown that he could be the man to end Real Madrid’s long wait for another Champions League trophy, winning it twice in the last ten years during his time at the San Siro.

1. Andre Villas-Boas (Tottenham)

A bit of a wildcard, but Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas’ name has come up as a possible replacement for Mourinho. The Portuguese tactician worked under his fellow countryman at Chelsea and Inter Milan before venturing into management himself. Although not yet as successful as the original ‘special one’, the young coach is tipped for a great future in the game and could certainly be a long-term solution to Real’s problems.
