Sporting Lisbon Starlet To Snub Swansea City

English born youngster wants to stay in Lisbon.

Sporting Lisbon defender Eric Dier is set to snub a summer move to Swansea in favour of staying with the Portuguese giants, according to talkSPORT.

The 19-year-old is a graduate of the Sporting Lisbon youth academy after his family moved from Cheltenham so that his mother could work at the Euro 2004 tournament.

A regular with the England under-19 squad, a number of sides have been lining up to take a closer look at him. Everton took him on a short term loan in 2011, which the Lisbon club believed would provide him “an opportunity for the athlete to grow in a more competitive and demanding environment.”

However, it is Swansea boss Michael Laudrup who is now credited with the bulk of the interest and had thought to be lining up a summer swoop to bring him back to the UK.

Dier currently has just a year remaining on his current deal but after impressing over his 15 appearances this season the club are hoping to tie him to a new deal that will see him stay until 2018.

Laudrup had been keen to exploit Sporting’s well documented financial difficulties by offering just £2.5 million for the prospect but it is believed that Dier has no interest in returning home and is happy with life in Portugal.
