Top Ten Premier League Centre-Backs In 2012/13

It’s end of season poll time.

Each week we will invite our readers to vote in a poll that will help us to produce a Premier League Best XI of 2012/13.

Today is the turn of the centre-backs.

Jan Vertonghen (Tottenham)

Belgian has been excellent in his first season in the English top tier, an able performer at both left-back and at the centre of the Spurs defence.

Rio Ferdinand (Man United)

Veteran has put in a very solid display at the heart of the Man United defence, used more often that Sir Alex Ferguson had probably planned for.

Jonny Evans (Man United)

When in the side Man United rarely failed to win with the Northern Irishman at the back.

Ryan Shawcross (Stoke City)

Typical no-nonsense season from the Potters defender who has helped his Britannia Stadium side to secure one of the best defensive records in the division, despite spend much of the season at the wrong end of the table.

Daniel Agger (Liverpool)

Dane has been assured and injury free, one of the first names on the Brendan Rodgers team-sheet.

Phil Jagielka (Everton)

Experienced campaigner has worked well alongside veteran Sylvain Distin, only Man City have conceded less goals this season than the Toffees.

Ashley Williams (Swansea City)

Welsh international has been a rock at the back, working well with new signing Chico Flores, guiding his side to a Capital One Cup triumph as well as a top ten finish.

Matija Nastasic (Man City)

Serbian youngster has been outstanding in his first season in the Premier League and has in the process forced England man Joleon Lescott out of the Etihad Stadium first team set-up.

Jamie Carragher (Liverpool)

Hanging up his boots this summer but the veteran defender has still been a hugely influential player at the back. Collecting 16 clean sheets in all competitions this season.

David Luiz (Chelsea)

Though the Brazilian has worked well as a defensive midfielder he has also impressed at centre-back, working to correct his positional concerns and becoming a crucial member of the Blues starting eleven.
