Brazilian striker interests French giants.
French side Marseille are hoping to rival Spurs for the signing of Internacional striker, but admit that the strikers price tag may prove problematic, according to talkSPORT.
The Ligue 1 giants finished in second place behind big spending PSG this season and have apparently identified their need of a new striker to be the main reason behind their failure to match the Parisian club stride for stride.
Andre-Pierre Gignac was their top scorer last term with 13 goals, and they have run the rule over a number of strikers ahead of the summer transfer window with Damiao reportedly high on the shortlist.
However, Damio’s £17 million price tag is thought to be a stumbling block that could see them lose out to Tottenham or Napoli, both of whom have already been strongly linked with a move for the 23-year-old.
Marseille’s sporting director Jose Anigo confirmed thatthough they are keen to bring him to the club, it just may not be the right time.
“We know him very, very well. But there are economic conditions that cannot be ignored. We are following him, but for now it’s too expensive,” he told French newspaper L’Equipe.
Damiao bagged 24 goals in 43 appearances last term and is largely expected to make the Brazil squad for next year’s World Cup.
