20 Premier League Transfers We Think Could Happen This Summer

20 transfers that could take place between Premier League clubs in this summer’s transfer window.

20. Loic Remy (Queens Park Rangers to Newcastle)

The talented French striker has shown good form since moving to the Premier League in January. Unfortunately, his six goals in the second half of the season were not enough to prevent Queens Park Rangers from being relegated. Newcastle were also interested in the 26-year-old in the January transfer window when he chose a move to Loftus Road from Marseille, and the Magpies may move for him again now that Rangers have gone down. He should have a minimum release fee clause of around £6million, which also has Arsenal and Liverpool interested, though they may have bigger targets, and Remy would fit in nicely among the growing French contingent at St James’ Park.

19. Franco Di Santo (Wigan to West Brom)

Franco Di Santo will be available on a free transfer this summer after failing to agree on a new contract with relegated Wigan. With the Latics down, the Argentine will be keen on a move back up to the Premier League, and has been linked with West Brom due to their need for a striker. Di Santo could do a decent job of replacing loan star Romelu Lukaku, as well as Peter Odemwingie and Shane Long, who could also both leave the Hawthorns this summer.

18. Peter Odemwingie (West Brom to Hull City)

After embarrassing himself trying to force a move to QPR in January, Odemwingie surely has no future at West Brom, and has been targeted by newly-promoted Hull City for around £3million. The Nigerian is still a decent Premier League striker and would be a good signing for Steve Bruce’s side, who he would probably choose over QPR now, following their relegation to the Championship.

17. Nicklas Bendtner (Arsenal to Stoke City)

The out-of-favour Danish striker is certain to be leaving Arsenal this summer after falling out with Arsene Wenger for not being first choice at the Emirates Stadium. Following unconvincing loan spells at Sunderland and Juventus, Bendtner has done little to prove he’s Arsenal material, and they will look to raise some money by selling him this year. The tall target man would suit Stoke’s style well, and it has been suggested he could be targeted by the club this summer.

16. Callum McManaman (Wigan to Liverpool)

Although Wigan are keen to keep their up-and-coming young winger Callum McManaman, he has been targeted for a summer move by Liverpool, and would surely jump at the chance to leave the newly relegated Latics for a Premier League giant. The 22-year-old is one of several wingers being linked with the Reds as they look to improve on their current options out wide.

15. Scott Sinclair (Manchester City to Liverpool)

Another winger being linked with Liverpool is Manchester City flop Scott Sinclair. The 24-year-old arrived after a good season last year for Swansea, but has barely been given a chance to prove himself at the Etihad Stadium, spending all his games on the bench. This is unlikely to change next season as City will continue to make more big-money signings to their squad, and Sinclair is an obvious choice for one to be sold. The former Chelsea youngster would fit in well at Liverpool and would welcome the chance to play under former Swans boss Brendan Rodgers again, after he got the best out of him at the Liberty Stadium. This looks a likely move and one that would suit both parties perfectly.

14. Victor Moses (Chelsea to Swansea City)

Last season’s signing from Wigan has found first team opportunities hard to come by at Chelsea, which is no surprise considering the competition ahead of him. It is thought that the Nigerian will be sent out on loan next season, and Swansea are interested in adding a goal scoring winger to their ranks. After failing to land Moses’ Chelsea team mate Romelu Lukaku, they could move for Moses next.

13. James McCarthy (Wigan to Tottenham)

Tottenham are on the lookout for midfielders next season, as they might consider selling the ageing Scott Parker and need cover for the injur-prone Sandro. James McCarthy has been in impressive form for Wigan despite their relegation, and he looks likely to stay in the Premier League next season after emerging as a target for Tottenham. Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea have also shown an interest, but White Hart Lane seems the most likely destination for the 22-year-old Irishman.

12. Andy Carroll (Liverpool to West Ham)

A fee of £15million has reportedly been agreed between Liverpool and West Ham to end this long-running transfer saga. It would be fair to say that Andy Carroll has not looked like fulfilling his £35million price tag since joining the Reds from Newcastle in 2011, and now certainly doesn’t fit in with Brendan Rodgers’ style of play. The 24-year-old has spent the season on loan at Upton Park, looking more at home under Sam Allardyce, though he seems uncertain over whether to make the move permanent. Newcastle have also been linked, as have big-spending French club Monaco, but Carroll would be wise to continue with the Hammers rather than continuing to move around.

11. Yohan Cabaye (Newcastle to Manchester United)

After a disappointing season for Newcastle, they could face the departures of some key players this summer, and Yohan Cabaye has been one of their most impressive performers over the last couple of seasons. Manchester United need a new playmaker in midfield to replace the retiring Paul Scholes, and are rumoured to be lining up a £20million bid for Cabaye. The Frenchman would not be out of place in a bigger Premier League side, and could give United the goals and assists they need from the middle of the park.

10. Micah Richards (Manchester City to Arsenal)

With Bacary Sagna likely to leave Arsenal for PSG this summer, Manchester City’s out-of-favour right-back Micah Richards has been linked with a move to the club. The 24-year-old is unfortunate to be down the pecking order at City, but has suffered from injuries and inconsistency this season. He will be keen to be playing more regularly, and he could certainly find his best form again at the Emirates Stadium. Liverpool are also said to be interested, though they would probably prefer to play him at centre-back, which is not his strongest position.

9. Clint Dempsey (Tottenham to Aston Villa)

Tottenham attacker Clint Dempsey came close to joining Aston Villa from Fulham last summer, but he unsurprisingly chose the more tempting move to Spurs. However, after an unconvincing season at White Hart Lane, the US international could be set for a quick exit from the club along with other squad players as they look to rebuild to challenge for the top four next season. The 30-year-old is maybe more suited to clubs like Fulham and Villa lower down the table, and Paul Lambert could reignite his interest in the American again this summer.

8. Leighton Baines (Everton to Manchester United)

With David Moyes leaving Everton and taking over from Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford, Leighton Baines has unsurprisngly found himself linked with Manchester United, following his great form at Goodison Park this season. The England left-back has shown himself to be one of the best attacking full-backs in the game with his ability to bomb forward and create chances for team-mates with his excellent delivery of crosses. The 28-year-old could arguably improve on his defensive habits, but he would also be likely to spend less time defending in a talented attacking side such as United’s.

7. Marouane Fellaini (Everton to Manchester United)

Another David Moyes raid on Everton could come in the form of midfielder Marouane Fellaini. The 25-year-old would give United some much-needed physicality in midfield or upfront, wherever Moyes chooses to play him. After his displays this season, he is obviously being linked with several big clubs, such as Arsenal and Chelsea, and he will have a number of options if they all choose to activate his very tempting looking minimum release fee clause of £25million, but he would surely be tempted to reunite with Moyes and have a chance to play for the Premier League champions.

6. Romelu Lukaku (Chelsea to West Ham)

The young Belgian has been in great form on loan at West Brom this season, but doesn’t look to have earned a place in the Chelsea first team. Another loan move looks likely for Lukaku, with West Ham showing the strongest interest as they search for a striker in case they do not secure the permanent signing of Andy Carroll from Liverpool. Swansea and Fulham have also been linked with this talented 20-year-old, who bid farewell to the Hawthorns with a superb hat trick against Manchester United.

5. Asmir Begovic (Stoke City to Arsenal)

The Bosnian shot-stopper is a target for a number of top clubs this summer, and Stoke seem to be preparing for his exit with the signing of Birmingham City goalkeeper Jack Butland. The 25-year-old has been one of the Premier League’s best ‘keepers this season and it would be a big boost for Arsenal to beat the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United to his signature, especially as they are the most in need of a goalkeeper, due to Wojciech Szczesny’s significant dip in form this season. Begovic looked like he’d completed a move to Liverpool just days ago, though these rumours were dismissed, and the Gunners could still get the former Portsmouth man for £15million.

4. Luke Shaw (Southampton to Chelsea)

Manchester United, Arsenal and almost all the big sides have been linked with this terrific Southampton prospect, but Luke Shaw himself has confessed a love for Chelsea, which could make them favourites to sign him this summer. The 17-year-old would be an excellent long-term replacement for Ashley Cole, now 32, and could go on to emulate Cole as one of the best full-backs in the country. He has shown tremendous maturity and ability for the Saints this season and they will not be keen to let him go, but the Blues can afford to offer the kind of money they may not be able to turn down.

3. Hatem Ben Arfa (Newcastle to Tottenham)

Tottenham will have a job on their hands to keep Gareth Bale at the club this summer, with big-money bids expected to come in from both Real Madrid and Manchester United for the double player of the year, but they could find a ready-made replacement in Hatem Ben Arfa. The French winger is a similarly skillful player who can be one of the most dangerous attacking players in the Premier League on his day. Some sources claim talks have already taken place between Spurs and the player, who is another big name considering his future at Newcastle after the Magpies endured a surprisingly poor season fighting relegation.

2. Christian Benteke (Aston Villa to Tottenham)

Another player who may be outgrowing his relegation-threatened team is Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke. The Belgian striker has been a revelation this season since arriving from Genk in the summer, and is now wanted by the likes of Arsenal, Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund. Spurs are also said to be interested, and are known to be targeting strikers this summer to replace the misfiring duo of Emmanuel Adebayor and Jermain Defoe. The talented 22-year-old would improve most big sides and would be a great signing if Spurs can pull it off. With Villa keen on Clint Dempsey, a swap deal could be a possibility to push this deal through.

1. Wayne Rooney (Manchester United to Chelsea)

In what would be a sensational move, all signs now point to unwanted Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney joining rivals Chelsea. Chelsea currently look like missing out on their other main targets, with Edinson Cavani going to Manchester City, Radamel Falcao going to Monaco and Robert Lewandowski going to Bayern Munich, meaning they could turn to the England striker to be their long-term Didier Drogba replacement. Bayern had been linked with the 27-year-old, but then denied the rumours, and there aren’t many other clubs that could afford his high wages. Although United would rather not sell to another English club, they are certainly not planning on keeping Rooney after some poor displays this season and his submitted transfer request. This would be something of a shock, but it seems ever more likely that it will happen.
