Emirates Stadium side set to capture young creative midfielder.
Arsenal are closing in on a deal to sign Lyon youngster Clement Grenier CaughtOffside understands, with Arsene Wenger having been in discussions with the Lyon side over the move for the past couple of weeks.
Wenger is known to be an admirer of the 22 year old, who can play in a number of positions but is perhaps most effective on the right hand side of the midfield.
Grenier has spent his entire career at the Stade Gerland and may be just one of a number of players who could leave cash strapped Lyon this summer.
Owner Jean-Michel Aulas has previously spoken of the need to balance the books with the sale of one or two of their top talents and Wenger’s close relationship with Lyon boss Remi Garde, a former Arsenal player, is said to be of assistance in getting a deal done.
Clement Grenier has had a superb season, racking up eight goals and six assists in 23 starts in all competitions, and will no doubt feel that a high-profile move to Arsenal will assist in his pursuit of a first senior French international cap and with the World Cup finals on the horizon such a move would be all the more beneficial to the young creative midfielder.
Lyon are thought to be interested in Arsenal attacker Gervinho and any move to capture Grenier could perhaps aid in their pursuit of the Ivory Coast international though one wonders if such a deal is possible given the financial constraints the Ligue 1 side are working under.
