Old Trafford club weighing up bid for Real Madrid midfielder.
Manchester United are considering a bid for Real Madrid’s Luka Modric as they weigh up their options in midfield according to The Sunday Express.
New manager David Moyes has begun drawing up a list of potential summer targets and has reportedly identified centre midfield as a position which needs strengthening.
The Old Trafford club are likely to find themselves short of options in the middle of the park following the retirement of Paul Scholes, the inconsistent form of Anderson and the continuing injury problems faced by Darren Fletcher.
Moyes is reportedly ready to make a bid for Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas but will turn to Modric should the club be unsuccessful in their attempts to sign the former Arsenal captain.
That could set United up for a head to head battle for Modric’s signature with Chelsea. The Stamford Bridge side are widely expected to appoint outgoing Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho in the coming days.
It is thought the Special One is keen to bring Modric with him to Stamford Bridge. Modric only joined Real Madrid from Tottenham last summer, but failed to establish himself in the club’s starting eleven.
But the player continues to be held in high regard by clubs in the Premier League who remember his highly impressive performances during his Tottenham days.
