Chelsea have reportedly set their sights on Lille left-back Lucas Digne according to Italian source TuttoMercato.

The teenage French defender is widely considered to be one of the hottest prospects in French football and the 19 year old has certainly garnering a strong list of prospective suitors with both PSG and Liverpool also scouting the full-back.

Digne has been a regular in the Stade Gerland side this term, racking up 40 appearances in all competitions, and may well be a player the Ligue 1 side consider offers for now that Rudi Garcia’s side have failed to secure European football of any sort for next term, their sixth place finish failing to secure a Europa League spot.

This source believes Digne would be available for a fee of around £10m, which may be a wishful valuation given that the player is contracted to Lille until 2017.

Digne may well be considered a suitable long term replacement for Ashley Cole, with the 32 year old having recently signed a one year contract extension but clearly being a player who is not necessarily a long term option at left-back.

To that end Chelsea have also been repeatedly linked with interest in Southampton youngster Luke Shaw.
